Is there any plan to make the EFL based mobile applications work with 1.7.8?
AFAIK, there are lots of non-upstream patches in Tizen 2.x to support the core
apps.

This sounds ok to me.
By the way, how about naming the branch "efl-1.8" or "upstream-efl-1.8" as efl
upstream uses "efl-1.8" as its stable branch name?
And is there any plan to sync tizen efl master with efl upstream mater?
Thanks.

i'd say this is sensible. build stable pkgs from stable branch - latest feature
pkgs from master
