I thought of  an optimization that could reduce memory usage...  

If all non-deleted documents have a value, we don't need a real BitSet -- just 
a Bits implementation that always returns true.

That should save 3% (or 12.5%) here and there.

On other thing to consider... do we want to remove the getXXXX functions that 
do not pass in a Parser?  passing in null, is equivalent?
