Just opened a pull request,
and I also seem to prefer the removal of SolrContentHandler#transformValue,
which is included in the pull request.
I ran the tests under the package org.apache.solr.handler.extraction,
including the one with that had the awaiting SOLR-12593 annotation, and all
tests passed :).
