turn it on, you are in this smarter mode. By default, predefined cores work,
you don't get this feature set - when you turn it on, predefined cores are out
the window and you get this feature set.
Okay that sounds good to me. It is easier to transition to 5.x this way -- just
throw away the non-smart mode.
