Hi all,

Browsing the web searching for SO informations, I found this page :
http://staroffice.com/

This site is a community of StarOffice users.

Yes I know, that was only to point the naming of the book.

It's said that OpenOffice Companion from Solveig and Floyd is the official OpenOffice guide.

If you look at the other books they list or display, I don't think they are aware of the many fine and new books about OpenOffice.org.

Yes, you're right

Without any idea of the content of the guide, so please no judgement here but only one question : why is it presented as an official guide ?

I think at the time the site was set up, Solveig's book was one of the few that was well known.

Ok, I understand, but the question is still there ;)

The book that 4 of us have written in French (all the benefits are reversed to the community via Cusoon) is not an official one. So my question is here : what will make our book official or not ?
I think that may be this question will interest other members of NLC community.

We are moving the books listed on the Support page (click the "Support" tab) to the Documentation Project. There is/will be more room to display the books, additional information and reviews.

This is a great idea.

I've never advertised our book more than another (even if the revenue goes back to OOo) because I don't think that kind of recognition exist through the community. Should we have something like that and what will make the difference ? I don't know. Again this is just questions :)

I think the "additional information" I have alluded to above should include things like where the proceeds of the book go, if and how the authors contribute in the community, and so on. For example, if I was looking to obtain a book about OpenOffice.org and I found several similar books, I am more likely to choose one where the proceeds may provide some benefit to OpenOffice.org and or I know the authors contribute in other ways.

I agree, this is why I asked if a kind of 'official recognition' could be or could not be relevant to agree on.

In addition to your book, I know that the DE project has some excellent books.

Yes, and I think Shoshannah has written one too, so there should be several books available through NLC.

On the new DP book page, I would like to provide a thumbnail of the cover (where a publisher allows) together with the publication details, how to obtain it, reviews and information that we think would benefit potential readers.

Thanks for this. For info, a big part of our book is also available freely has pdf chapters. Books are important because they reflect also the interest put into the product (no market, no books ;)

Post to [EMAIL PROTECTED] so others are aware of your book so when we come to makeover the page for books, we can follow you up.

Ok, thanks a lot for your answer, I'll invite also NLC to post on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Kind regards
Sophie
