I envision that this is 80% of what marketing is, selling products.
Now as a marketing team we (this is the all inclusive we even though
I'm certainly a newbie here) have a certain twist to how we market.
We need to promote a few things:

1) Getting new users and keeping old ones.
2) Getting strategic partners that can support the development of the product.
3) Attracting developers to spend their time helping to develop code
for the project.

To be able to do this I feel we need to be somewhat nimble.
Decisions need to be able to be made quick. Now I certainly do
believe that the community should always be informed. I will go out
on a limb and propose an order of how items should be accomplished.

1) Person proposing an idea states ahead of time that they won't be
able to lead it. Otherwise it is assumed that if general approval
occurs the person will take the lead.

2) After proposal the people on the marketing list have 1 week to give
thoughts and ideas about the project. Giving solid examples of
reasons why it should or shouldn't happen.

3) At the end of that week the person taking the lead on the idea can
ask for what the general consensus is. If it's mostly approval then
the person can feel free to persue further keeping the list informed
on what is happening.

4) If throughout this time the list becomes generally dissatisfied
with the proposal and it seems that they want to call it quits then
the lead will hopefully respect that decision and stop accordingly.

This does not pertain to getting information, but I would say that
this does pertain to speaking to any large companies for donations. I
certainly don't think we want to be sponsored by Playboy just because
they give us $5000. I think the list needs to determine if a sponsor
does further our goals before moving with them. Some partners I saw
some people get together with seemed kind of iffy. So I would hate to
bring OOo a partner that want's us for exploitation rather than a
strategic alliance for both sides.

This is by no means a demand. Again, I'm new here and I could be way
off base and you already have a means of approval that you like. Is
there something to add? Remove?
