hi all

after reading this thread, i got really concerned about the way this conversation is going.

being deeply involved in this project myself for a couple of years now (mostly locally, though), i have the greatest respect for all of you, leads, co-leads and other volunteers, who put so much effort and time into this project, (most of you) not getting anything in return for it.

the thing that bothered me most in your discussions is the 'this isn't going anywhere' attitude. i can tell you for a fact that two years ago only 5 people in my country knew about OOo. today, everyone knows about it and most people either use it or keep it on a cd somewhere. every new version of OOo gets on a CD of every computer magazine and OOo documents are the most downloaded files from our server. to me, this is 'going in the right direction'.

and not only this: the whole project thing made people believing again about how much can be done if you just put a little effort in it. if everyone contributes a small portion, you can do great things.

so, basically, i just wanted to let you know that, in my opinion, even though money helps keep things going, its the people (and their ideas) behind the scenes that are the project's greatest value.

thanks for reading through.

+1 to everything Jean said. this place seems to move slower than a
snail

Really? Are you just saying that or are you seriously so ignorant of what is going on and what you can do? Or do you just want to insult people?

I am a highly informed member of the community, and the community representative at the community council. I completely agree with Jason.

Well of course. Jason agrees with Jean, jean agrees with Daniel, Daniel
agrees with jason. We are not surprised.

OOo is moves at glacial speed. Any new idea is shot upon sight. I
spend great effort trying to contribute, but my efforts are for
naught. Even the simplest change has to be fought tooth and nail over
the course of several months. Frustration is evident everywhere, I see
it every day, it gets discussed all the time. As someone recently
said, fork is in the air.

Think of it in these terms. Some ideas are better then others.

Sincerely,

Cheers
Louis
