To me the focus of our marketing should be on the Open Document Format
(ODF).

To this end I would like it if the OpenOffice.org marketing project also
included marketing of StarOffice including the Enterprise Edition. To
me, for us to be able to do this we would need:

      * Access to both the standard version and the Enterprise version
        of StarOffice.

      * Prepare and maintain documentation on the differences between
        the different versions.

The level of support that can be provided is an issue. So, as part of
this we need to be in a position to say who (what organisations) are
available to provide what level of support. To this end we need a
certification scheme of OOo contractors. I see at least part of that
certification scheme being based upon what they have given to the
community.

I think it could be a good idea to form some teams that focus on
marketing to different types of organisations, rather than just
geographical regions. Teams could be formed for:

      * Government (possibly divided into local government and national
        government).

      * Education (possibly divided into primary, secondary, tertiary,
        and workplace).

      * Corporations.

      * Non government organisations (NGOs).

      * Small to medium size businesses.

      * Small office, home office (SOHO).

      * Community groups.

      * Home users.

These teams could act as a central resource that the regional Marketing
Contacts (Marcons) could call upon as required. They could also be
responsible for producing targeted documentation.

I also think that we need to procure funds so that we can have budgets
for advertising campaigns. To this end we need to form a team whose
responsibility is to seek sponsorship, donations and grants.

I think it would be good if each regional Marcon was to produce a
marketing plan for their region.

Thanks, Ian
