Except that MS is going after vendors here and not end users. For end
users, MS still uses front-ends like the BSA and FAST so that they take
the negative publicity and not the main party. Same method for
complaining about competition: MS uses BSA, CompTIA, FAST, and others to
say the unpopular things.
Therefore, by simply using (licensed) MSO installations, I am
encouraging my employees/professors/students to use MSO at home, and
many will use a pirated version instead of paying full price. ...
I think that's part of the marketing strategy for the movement. Their
chairman said the following in 1998:
"As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to
steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll
somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade."

Using a pirated version of MS hurts MS' competitors more than it hurts MS
itself: MS prevented a sale to competitors and increases the likelihood of
a future purchase.
If I use OOo, or even use MSO but encourage my members to use
OOo at home, I risk nothing. ...
Yes. And Sun StarSuite and OOo need to be capitalizaing on that.
... MS seems to be targeting OEMs, so our campaign can too.
My point too. Additionally, if nothing is done, MS will be able to lock
non-MS products out of OEMs. It has done that before, BeOS being juse one
example.

Keep them out of the EU by writing your MEP, keep the market open.
