Hi All,
Just my 2 cents on the idea of a separate web site. I would prefer
not to see that happen. At least, not yet. I would rather see us
continue trying to work using the assets currently available. The
wiki has just been "opened" and I think there is still some "sorting"
going on as to its role. Let's let the dust settle a bit more.
As you can see, the point in all the fight was again for forking and
breking things up. ...and as some suggested, taking some lead credits.
No, it is not. You completely miss the ball here Christian. I want to
create a website te present any effort done by the marketing project in
a professional way and I feel to be supported by all those who have
suggested the same in the past. If OOo wants it to fork and be a
seperate marketing project, it will not be my decision.
I for one vote against a separate site. It is strange how those
willing to break things were using the LACK OF AN AT LEAST A WIKI :)
thing to do that.
No, wrong again. My first post on the marketing wiki is on the
talk:marketing. Please read it.
Now that we have it, it moved to the leads...and in the end, the plan
of trying to fork showed up again. :)
So wrong Christian. you see only the consequenses of what you believe is
happening. I am not trying to fork marketing project, cfr above.
Common sense means to me that if there is a first move in
straightening things, try and help, maybe things will get better.
If it will, it will take forever.
And who can say they won't with all the work in the last weeks ?
The work is great, and I will contribute where I can, but I want to give
the information to the targets in a professional way. That is all.
Consider it a presentation layer.
As for the existing marketing.openoffice.org web site, imo one of the
biggest drawbacks is confusion over who the web site's intended
audience is. For example, Steven suggests the need for "a structured
library of information, tools and marketing materials to marketing
volunteers." This would seem to imply the site is geared toward
"volunteers". What kind? The kind that want to help spread the
word? Or those who want to help with art? Help writing? Research?
Something else?
We can and we will organize the existing OOo website easily to reflect
the changes in the marketing process. I for one I am convinced that
for large consumption by public, the strong servers we have now are
the best.
Agreed, but they are not the only ones and I believe every one helping
out to make a website would rather see it inside OOo.
The question that then comes to my mind is what about OEM's? Where
do they go for materials? Reporters? Someone that just wants a good
looking CD label for a friend?
On the current site. And if we brainstorm in organizing it better, it
will make a nice couple with the wiki.
Lets for now not loose heads with all these offers to host sites, and
stick to what we should do next.
That is what I am doing.
Steven
