I just got an answer form the Dutch company Open Office stating that it
is correct, that the company owns the trademark "Open Office" in Benelux
(Belgium, the Netherlands and Luzembourg). This probably means the we
cannot use the name "OpenOffice" in these countries since that name is
too similar with "Open Office" - unless, of course, we can somehow make
an agreement with the company.
Anyway, whatever the real reason was for the name, I suggest that we
change the explanation in the FAQ. Right now, the FAQ could easily be
understood like: "We would really have called the product OpenOffice,
but we realized that we couldn't, so unfortunately we had to choose
another name, and we had to hurry and couldn't make up something better
than this". This gives, of course, a very unprofessional impression.
Instead we should state that the name was deliberately chosen for very
intelligent and sophisticated reasons ;-)
