Establishing more partnerships with the Free and Open Source projects, and
even open standards projects, could quite well generate more revenue for
Dell then being on Bill's leash even did. Who knows? It for them to
decide, the best we can do is approach them.
If even people like Jorma Ollila of Nokia are pounding the drum for open
standards, you know there has been a sea change at the top levels of
international business. It might be time for Dell to get in on that.
... How do we know that Dell doesn't get Windows say $30 less than

products? ...
IIRC that was nixed in the 1990's. From what I understand, the way
around that is to form an 'advertising partnership'
... On the face of it, its difficult to see why they would not install
OOo instead of Works since Works is inferior in just about every respect
and less compatible with MSO than OOo. Since they don't install OOo
already, its likely that there are other factors in play such as MS
subsidies ...
If no other progress is made, getting that data into the daylight would be
an enormous advantage.
