Hi Paul, I must admit that I'm partial to the explanatory subtitles as well, however they have to be informative but short. More of a subheader than an explanation. Think of it like a "Positioner" for the page that it's aimed at. It has to "sell" the link. So for instance the download.openoffice.org link could have a subheader of "OOo Oldie? Upgrade or update, right here, right now" The Why link could have "First Timer? Let us tell you about OOo" and so forth.
