Hi Graham (please scroll down for reply to Viktor's email),

That's why this message was posted here - to determine just how much
stuff is needed. I think the navbar would be useful for more frequent
visitors. It would also ensure consistency with other pages that will
be using the same header graphic - pages where a navbar would be
necessary.

The footer is one area where there definitely should be some pruning,
however I don't know if every page must have a link to the terms of
use and the Sun smallprint - someone on this list probably will. If
someone is looking for press releases, which action statement do they
click if there is no footer? Because the marketing project deals with
press releases, its members should to decide whether a link to this
information is important enough for the homepage (and I assume it
might be). The other links are debatable - probably unnecessary, but
those decisions should be made either collectively or by someone who
can say exactly why they need to/should be there.

This could work well - could you try writing up with a few of these
subtitles so we have a starting point?

"OOo Oldie? Upgrade or update, right here, right now"

Upgrade or update will likely be one and the same to the user, and
this completely ignores the first-time-user, who may not necessarily
download from the why.openoffice.org, or who may have already heard
about it and just wants to download it - how about putting in
something related to 'switching' as well?

Viktor,

ALL text and content on that page is up for debate.

I'm sorry if I didn't make this clear - the content on there was put
there by me, and the purpose of this discussion is for the wider
community to initiate the decision making process - the textual
content (all links, subtitles, text, etc) there is NOT meant to be
indicative, or to influence what the final product will look like. The
positioner, the footer, the subtitles and even the navbar are all up
for changes or removal.

Thanks,

Ivan.
