Actually, I don' think we should communicate. First of all, we don't really

Excuse me? we shouldnt communicate? I thought this was a Marketing
group that was supposed to communicate about this kind of things.

Sometimes intended silence is a form of communication...

FLOSS and Open Standards. Second, speaking out first may be

Maybe you don't know but I definetly want to know and will invite to
find out and get more involve by communicating.

We should definitely know more, and this is why I don' t think we should be communicating "in the wind". Most migrations towards OOo, ODF or FOSS are done silently and announced afterwards because no CIO wants to have MS in his/her office. The ones that get announced usually go bust.

counterproductive. MS is out there and they are very powerful in D.C. as well as elsewhere. Now, I'm pretty sure this is going to be a neat progress

So whats the difference here?

The difference is that there's a federal budget, a political will, and we know nothing of those two. My claiming of this nomination being a neat progress is mere speculation from my side, I do expect Mr McNealy not to buy MS Office 2007 licenses in bulk and parade around Miguel de Icaza, but I don't know how serious/ convinced / and ultimately, appropriate he will find a massive move towards, say, OOo, based on the existing IT assets of the federal administration.

from the past administration in terms of innovating in the field of IT and procurement, but again, I don't really know what we should be saying about
it.

First i would want to be more direct about "yes we can" put OOo in
your federal government. We have done it with other governments and
there is no reason why it wouldnt work at your office.

First, what did OOo (the project) say with which government in particular? I remember Louis speaking about Brazil, not so much about its government but about the country in general, and India, and it was pretty much the same train of thought. Second, when Louis did speak in such a fashion, he was speaking of things he had seen and witnessed, and he did not come out of the blue shouting on a government to move to OOo.

Government adoptions of OOo is more common everyday, so there is
nothing new about having the federal goverment adopting OOo without
stoping everyday business operations.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you: and the US moving to FOSS and ODF would send the last call for all the other countries. That's why we're certainly not going to sound obnoxious and point the finger on an issue that is not too hot at the moment. Now don't get me wrong: I absolutely would love to work on an actual campaign, but I want to do it in an effective way, and I don' t think that demanding something on behalf of the project might work. If there is sufficient interest, perhaps the MarCons and the MP leads could open a dedicated mailing list or a wiki page so that we can brainstorm?

Best,
Charles.
