Maybe the OOo art and ux projects would be more apropiate than marketing
for the discussion of icons.
It's not only a question of icon design (Art Project) or user
interaction (UX) - in my eyes it's a marketing question to remove any
application specific symbols from the document icons and replace them by
the "ODF" writing.
The goal is to improve visual identity and branding for ODF - to reduce
relation to the OOXML format(following André's mail there are already
more documents online - and MSO strategy for 2010 seems to work in this
direction).
In my eyes this reduces our own branding and visual identity - and
therefore I can support it only, if I see a real profit for OOo too.
Following the release status minutes [1] the new icons will be
integrated in OOo3.2 - and only with a really strong marketing strategy
I could imagine that this could work for OOo and ODF at the same time.
Best regards
Bernhard
