Therefore I'd like to run a survey, inviting all community members to
vote for the most important properties of OpenOffice.org.
Polling the community probably will bring up completely different
results than polling general users or even the public. Do you have this
in mind?
Yes - I'm not looking for the general public thoughts on OOo (even this
might be a very interesting survey), but on the community's
self-perception as a basis for our visual design.
With such a design based on the results of that poll I can cover two
aspects:
- Improve identification of the community members with the main project
(not only with the sub-project they work in)
- Steer public perception towards the visual impression of OOo we want
them to get. I don't want to reflect their present perception of our
product and project.

Mission statement:
Our goal is to reveal positive associations with OpenOffice.org's brand
by improving the identification of community members with OpenOffice.org
and the recognition of the product in public.

That what I wrote down as the basis of the branding initiative's work.
But as nobody really knows about the feelings of our project members
towards the community, creating a consistent visual design is not easy.
I quess, community and public see OpenOffice.org with very different eyes.
I'm quite sure they do. But on the other hand I don't think that there
are so much differences between the community point of view and the way
we *want* people to look at our project in future.
Best regards
Bernhard
