Yes - I'm not looking for the general public thoughts on OOo (even
this might be a very interesting survey), but on the community's
self-perception as a basis for our visual design.

Well maybe it´s just me but I just don´t get it. How do you plan to
convert the results of such a poll to items such as a color palette
being used for the visual design?

I don't think a color palette is the most important part of visual design. It's about the general impression of OOo - with color, form, usage of dedicated elements and so on,

Every designer has some goals while creating any artwork and design. In opposition to an independent design corporate design tries to cover certain aspects of company's goals with visual means.

I'm quite sure that some of the properties most community members think to be important contain "open ", "professional" or "active".

These properties can be integrated in our visual design - and they should be part of a design that helps integrating our different projects in a common feeling: "We all are OpenOffice.org!".

And I am not even talking about
aspects like that perception of colors might be different around the
world and among different cultures.

That's a problem every international active entity has to solve. We as a project with community members all over the world have the advantage to include all these different perceptions in the design we want to create as a collaborative task.

This whole idea of a poll to base a visual design on is just way too
strange for me.

In a company the designer get the goals they should follow from the managers or their marketing department. In a project like OOo there is no management - it is the community.

Therefore I want to ask the community about their goals.

Best regards

Bernhard
