That is what has become the default. Did you look at the settings.xml file? It contains a profile with the central repository. Just disable that profile or change it. What you did in the past is what gets shipped by default in 3.4.0-SNAPSHOT. There will be no repositories in the super pom any more. What exactly does not work for you that way?
