If you are using nettop, you could try the function key in the bottom(it's just 
like function key on keyboard in windows system, to activate taskbar), it 
seemed able to popup the drop down menu at the top. I've tried that on eeetop. 
Is that what you want?

Well, I thought increasing the width of the active portion at the top 
was a 'reasonable' workaround but, as I said, not perfect since it has 
potential side effects.
