I think it would be a good idea to ask Native Language Projects and native language teams to provide special documents containing their unique characters, date formats, number formats (as Andre suggests in the issue), and punctuation, text layout etc., for QA testing. Due to the different rendering system between Windows and Linux, and whether a certain platform supports your language or not, and/or OpenOffice.org's coding, sometimes or often :) , your characters can not be displayed correctly with your OpenOffice.org, as you may know very well :) Every language is unique. But we can categorize them. Can you help me categorize your language in terms of the text layout? I think we can use CTL/STL, RTL/LTR and VTL/HTL for text layout types: CTL (complex text layout) <-> STL (simple text layout) RTL (right to left) <-> LTR (left to right) VTL (vertical text layout) <-> HTL (horizontal text layout) I am not sure whether Japanese is CTL or STL. We write Japanese texts both vertically and horizontally. Recently we don't write Japanese texts right to left for horizontal writing. Then we can say: Japanese is LTR, VTL and HTL while English is STL, LTR and HTL.
