Hi all,

This mail will be pretty long sorry, but, I'm tired of fighting against my own project, the one I choose to work about 40 hours per week without asking for any feedback because this is my choice and I own it.

I'm answering at the top of your mail Bernhard, not for being impolite but because on this subject there is some information I should give where I understand both Ger and Charles reaction.

This is not directed toward Kami, but about an overall lake of communication pn the OpenOffice Premium project, the new Template project and finally the OpenOffice.org project.

For you information, Kami's version has caused a lot of issues for me (as a project lead) and I have been the target of several insults for not endorsing it or on the contrary for not reacting publicly against it. The fact is that Kami never goes here to ask for our help and that we have a responsibility in front of the OpenOffice.*name that are released and are deployed in several companies and administrations. This is not only a toy...

Whatever has happened in this new template project, my first reaction was that it was only a new GUI project to manage templates, ok. But it's not only that if you read until the end, this is a new repository where it is said that the documentation project is dead and where it is said that our templates are very poor. Thanks for our contributors, a team of new heroes is here :( This is really what I've felt reading this page and where I understand that Ger can have reacted (and Charles too).

About the documentation project, it happens that in the same time of the template contest, somebody at Sun has proposed to the community council, in a private mail, that some templates where offered or sells (I didn't really understand and didn't want to understand a private mail that should be public) to those who answered to the user survey. In the same time of the contest, and without knowing or even evaluating what we are offering, it was really disappointing for my point of view. Something that is tactless to not even take informations before the proposal. The same has happened for the Extension project...

The new online update page is directing people to English only links where the same resources are existing in my language. We (the fr project) have not been consulted for this page. I know by experience that tomorrow I will be responsible for a page that contain several grammatical and syntax inconsistencies, but where, when do I have been asked for help on this page ? Should I remember that English documentation in a French product is forbidden by a law ? Why should I be ever the one that request ? Why don't we act as a project ?

I have been working on a important project this last weeks, a competitiveness cluster (see here for an English information http://www.competitivite.gouv.fr/index.php?&lang=en) in the Paris area.
Not sure it is a winning project but it is in a good shape.
I'm the first who would like to see the OOo market-place active and help it. But the overall pressure that is put on us and the lake of communication about it, is really difficult to stand when you have to fight externally and internally. Internally meaning that most of the developers ignore or don't want to take in consideration what is done by the community.

My experiences here are about several projects where the community and my project could bring resources, feedback, developments. But it seems that (what I have been said on the OOo/SO list) a language project is not representative whatever the magnitude of its user base.

Currently by week the FR release is dowloaded about 100 000 time on 3 mirrors (40 000 for Free, 20 000 (only for windows on Telecharger.com and another one that sent me its stats), I'm aware of several migrations because of my work and relations with several companies. Of course I'm more than willing that all this have a means of ROI for the project, and this is what I'm working on. We have had to be very patient and intelligent about these migrations, the feedback will ask us the same patience and intelligence.
Driving us away will mean no feedback at all... Is that what is wanted ?

Kind regards
Sophie

Hello Charles, *

I've been writing a longer reply to G. Roderick Singleton, but decided not to send it...

So I keep it short here:

KAMI didn't write that wiki page and isn't listed as part of the iTeam.

And the section about the documentation project is titled with [FIXME] (and only calls the templates page not updated since quite a long time - of course the wording could be better, but that's not a reason to fight against KAMI)

Please have a look at the wiki page's history.

KAMI just added information on his template and clipart collection and told us about this effort to ease the way to use templates directly form the product - and therefore I'd like to thank him.

And WRT your complaints about OxygenOffice - we had these discussions in the past and I thought you told us you would help him to integrate as many templates and clipart in the official package.

With building extensions from his collection he is on the right way IMHO.

Best regards

Bernhard
