These users won't benefit from developers leaving NetBeans development, because they don't want to code for the past. That is the other side of the coin. At least I'm pondering if that might be a good idea. > NetBeans Platform users need JDK8 support. That's why > I am volunteering to maintain and run the CI & tests on JDK8. Which Platform users need JDK 8 support and why can't they just stay on (for example) NetBeans 17? They are obviously not interested in features, as they are already cut of from all developments in the JDK area and thus I question why they would be interested in NB features. What is more these users will have the same problem with other libraries, which are also dropping support for old JDKs. Fixing CI & tests is only part of the problem (which is already enough), but our dependencies also can't be updated because of this and that is a massive problem. To give a different perspective: Running software on JDK 8 at my work is a sign of problems and is faced with serious questions from OPs. Even JDK 11 is beginning to becoming increasingly questionable and quite frankly, once you over the JDK 8 barrier, it gets better.
