When I opened this issue back in June 2014 I just did it to keep the solution
somewhat alive, as the underlying appserver templates were outdated at the
time. Tomcat 7 (and even Tomcat 8) are just more recent, more servicing -
security wise, etc. than Tomcat 5 and 6).
That having said, like others I have not seen the solution referenced in the
mailing lists in relation to the released 10.x, 11.x, 12.x and 13.x as
something that users regarded as paramount to their deployment strategy. Yes, I
remember some contributors questioning briefly whether it was useful or stating
that it was under evaluation.
But as no-one stepped up and persevered, it became obvious that this - as is it
- has reached its EOL. Also due to improvements elsewhere. We, as the
community, didn't clean the house regarding this component. Basically, because
it was lacking consensus. As now several contributors (including you and me)
have stated/accepted that this is outdated, we can start the process of
removing it from the branches we maintain.
