For the IDEA disappoinment :), I think you can refactor your code so we have two main components, one which deals with common - standard - EJB3 annotations - which IDEA already support - and the other component is related to generating OpenEJB specific artifcats, then you can add the OpenEJB specific code to be used with the IDEA component.
