I have this idea that OpenOffice should be leaner so I have a patch for
MediaWiki that replaces a bunch of old Java dependencies with JVM functionality.
commons-httpclient --> java.net.http.HttpClientcommons-codec --> java.util.Base64 /
HexFormatcommons-logging --> java.util.logging / AOO loggingcommons-lang3 --> JDK
equivalents
The downside: we will now require Java 11+. I think nowadays this is a pretty
reasonable requirement though. Any comments?
I dont feel comfortable with this proposal. I think this not the right time.
I like the idea to make AOO more lean. Maybe also to remove old things
that are seldom used, difficult to handle, e.g., due to dependencies and
libraries.
However, the time has to fit and the work must be manageable by the
volunteers (incl. testing).
Maybe you can detail your proposal after the release time.
Thanks for your idea.
