When I insert a zero width space (unicode 200B hex) it is only "displayed" properly (i.e. not as a box) if I format it and the preceding character in OpenSymbol font. If I format just the ZWSP as OpenSymbol, it's still shown as a box.
Is that a bug or just some weird feature of unicode characters and/or fonts that I'm not aware of? Does someone have an idea what other invisible zero-width entity works better (anything invisible and zero-width will do)?
