Charles, I need support for that, i cannot code.

So if you are not one of the developers of the software, who are you
regarding the CSpace project? PR manager? Webmaster? Tester? Simple
user?

I think here are a lot of developers and can judge, how much work it is to make a
first distribution > (without MAC Solaris for the first release).

As a Mac user (and since not so long, OOo tester in the french QA team
for the Mac platform), I strongy disagree with this statement. OOo
codebase of each component has to be buildable for any platform OOo is
released on. Moreover, CSpace is coded in Python, and AFAIK, 90% (if
not more) of OOo code is C++. A huge refactoring would be needed
before even thinking of integrating CSpace as a component. Not even
talking about GUI, look n feel, translations (of the GUI and
documentation), etc... And then porting to Mac (X11 for Intel and PPC,
and then for the upcoming Aqua native version), Solaris and *BSD
platform has to be completed.
No way such a workload could be achieved for the 2.0.4 release
(planned for september), not even 2.1 branch i guess, maybe 3.x.

But we have all to agree on that, that we want to have this component.
I think an addon is third party and then it is not here into the core of heart
of the developers, then we have no chance and then this project gets no sucess.
So I asked if here is someone experienced with python to add the logo and
integration for the code release and who is responsible for the website
actualization.
Rest will follow with the development, and if here is no python interested and
Messenger interested coder is found, this project as well gets no chance to be
realized for OO.

Why not asking the CSpace developers first? For sure they are the ones
that know best about this software, and its possible integration to
such a huge project like OpenOffice.org...
Moreover, even though the licence doesn't require it, simply asking
them about integrating their code would be mere politeness (well, if
you are a non-coding member of the CSpace project, I guess they
already know and agree about that).

So as a suggesting person or then later maybe project management supporting
person I want to make a sonsens out of this thread, if all agree, that it is
useful and offers chances for OO, if not and nobody is interested, then we have
no chance and the request is denied.

But as no one has said no I won´t support that Component... as it still does
not exist... we have a chance to create such a subproject. Right ? But not an
addon, a component would be better..

I fear you don't really grasp the consequences of developing a new
component in OOo... You should ask the guys from Base, they could tell
you more about that.

Just like Éric Bischoff, I strongly disagree on the idea of having an
IM client in OOo as a component, for the same reasons he mentionned.
Of course, feel free to create an add-on, and time will tell if people
request its integration to OOo core.

So far, good luck with the CSpace project, and notify me (or this
list, even better) as soon as a Mac version is released. I find the
idea of p2p-based IM quite interesting and innovative, and I could
help for testing on Mac platform.

Best regards,
alexis
