However: I've seen (and joined) a very lengthy and intense discussion

About more community involvement especially. The Wiki came, but very
little extra time, if any at all, has been spent by all people, using
that tool.
I tend to disagree. More than 600 content pages, and ~18,000 page
edits speak for themselves, I hope:

It's obvious that the experience on the marketing project is not
representative ... so hopefully the statistics for the MP will improve
as well. (pls note: no offense meant to anyone involved)
At least the barriers for entry are far lower than on the CVS-based
OOo main site.
So I'm a bit careful, conservative... The Wiki is not a magic
formula that will solve it all ;-) Are we not fooling ourselves with
this discussion?
Sure - the wiki is no silver bullet. But the wish to provide
wiki-based specs came from code contributors themselves - all else
being equal, why shouldn't we do it?
Yes of course. Any (slight) improvement could turn out to be worth.
