Johannes, I was a windows developer too. To keep my Windows workstation "clean" (for as far as a microsoft product can be) I always used virtual machines when it involved servers that I wanted to talk too. I think trying to get an OSM server on Windows is a road you do not want to travel. What purpose does it serve? You are not gonna place that server on the net anyway. What I most often do is: - - Get VMWare Player (free) at <http://www.vmware.com/download/player/> - - Create a VMWare Player image as described here <http://www.ffnn.nl/pages/articles/linux/vmware-player-image-creation.php> - - Install one of the operating systems that is well documented on the openstreetmap wiki - - follow the instructions on the wiki - - Set up the VMWare player to have a "bridged" network connection - - Then you can access your virtual OSM server from your usual desktop with ftp or SSH and http If you would like to investigate this option, I would gladly be of help. Kind regards, Milo van der Linden Johannes Lauer wrote: > Hi, > > I've downloaded Ruby Instant Rails 2.0... > MySQL... installed both, > created a new openstreetmap Database with the MySQL commandline tool, > but don't know how to initialize the db scheme. > Perhaps someone has a step by step list how to install an OSM Server with > Windows? > > Thanks, > > Jo -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFIiDfliCYTRyqLCBURAi3UAKCDbBPu0Hk4zpNWWPvHY7DevGswpQCfZbjg i2HqnNVmZrSrl4TTs+ay2b8= =6SgZ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dev
