The standard OSM mapnik map is a map of the world that happens to be produced in the UK with UK styles. There is nothing to stop others producing maps of the world in their own local styles. I'd be quite interested to see a map of where I live (Oxford, UK) in other styles. I remember a while ago someone had a go at Australian styles. The style of marking a hospital with a crescent instead of a cross is not what should be on a UK style map, no matter where the hospital is located, or who runs it. Similarly, if the map was produced for another audience's style, all hospitals should be rendered accordingly.
