Avar will know more than I do about how it works, but there isn't any
translation to po files - they have some sort of custom code that
imports from YAML and exports back to YAML.
I've made a python script to translate part of these yml file to .po.
I'm using the 'search_osm_nominatim' section translation to i18ze a legend.
It's not complete yet, but I can drop the code somewhere if needed.
