By "mapnik" I asume you are refering to the "standard" map at osm.org
IMHO : it is not good enough for editing purpose.

Arguably, the standard map might or might not show that information if we see 
it as a "general purpose" map.
But as an "editing purpose" map like, it would be a great addition. But 
several other features also would :
place=isolated_dwelling
sac_scale=*
or
trail_visibility=*
comes to by mind, but it could be extended to any approved feature in the wiki 
or at least any approved with a certain threshold of uses.
