The Bug Council has triaged most of the performance work to future
releases, meaning we are unlikely to see much improvements in
performance from now till 0.6 release. We were seeing quite a few
regressions from the performance work and wanted to avoid further
destabilization at this point.

If you still see performance bugs that are preventing you from
dogfooding Chandler, please let us know.

Last week was unusually good with performance improvements. I did
another trend graph on Friday last week because there were significant
improvements since Tuesday - the page is here:
http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Journal/PerfTrend20051118 (btw, I
switched to OpenOffice.org Calc 2.0 to create the graph - works almost
identically to Excel). Last week we were also able to close a couple
more perf bugs because we achieved our targets.

So taking a look at our original 9 tests on
http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Projects/PerformanceProject we
have clearly achieved our goals for 4 of them. The two startup cases are
under the acceptable limits on Windows and Linux, and only a little too
slow on the Mac.

We added another 8 tests as something we would keep an eye on and fix if
necessary. Of these, we have achieved our goal on 3. We are also very
close on a couple more.

It should be noted that we used a very large calendar for some of the
tests (3000 events). Most people will not have calendars this large. It
seems 500-1000 event calendars would be somewhat common in a business
environment, and some brief tests indicate that using a 1000 event
calendar would give acceptable perf numbers on maybe 5 more tests that
are currently not even close. So all in all, with a 1000 event calendars
our numbers would look pretty good.

Of course, there is still a long way to go to get to the ideal numbers.
We'll work on these in future releases.
