Took another look and simplified my code to filter out only the code that is
behaving slowly, which is the call to renderer.renderImage(). I edited the code
snippet above also to remove unnecessary parts.
With patch it took 16 sec.
Without patch it took 2 sec.
Windows 7, jre1.8.0_91. Code is part of a web application run in Tomcat.
So, if the patch is faster on some platforms, it does not appear to benefit my
application. Nor in the dev environment or on deployment in Linux. But since it
is configurable between old/new functionality it is of no big concern for me.
But I think it needs some investigation before deciding which option should be
the default one.
