I thought that we could provide backward compatibility in 0.12 only - i.e.
deprecating JobStats in 0.12 and deleting it in 0.13. I don't know whether it's
acceptable to others though.
All the complexity seems to come from exposing JobStats to users in many public
interfaces. So if we can ask downstream projects to update their code before
0.13, we can move on with whatever fix works for now. But sounds like you want
to keep backward compatibility in both 0.12 and 0.13... :(
