HI Aaditya, The main issue I see with working on PLC4X as a starter project is something that differentiates it from almost all other Apache projects I know, is the fact that in order to really dig into it you need PLCs. Most of these have a pretty high price-tag. In order to use most of the PLCs you also need to purchase the enginering software for them, these usually come at insane prices (from an IT perspective ... I'm talking 5k€ or so) There are ecosystems such as CodeSys and Beckhoff (TwinCat3) that allow you to get started with a simulated PLC and without costs for the engineering environment. So I would reccommend you have a look at those. I would say with CodeSys you definitely have the bigger ecosystem. Also carreer-wise ... I am not sure I should encourage you ... I had been trying to earn a living in industrial automation via consulting or by full employment. At least in Germany it required me to cut the usual IT salary in half :-/ Only when working for Rivian, would I say the pay was good. If you're like, me ... so if you want to change the world to become a bit better, I am happy to mentor you ... and let's see how it goes. Perhaps we can still propose a GSOc project a bit later (I think it's still quite early in the timeframe for that).
