Hi all,

I'm kicking off this thread to get approval to host the first ever Apache
Polaris-specific meetup in Seattle! We'd love to host the community at our
Snowflake Bellevue location on September 9. A lot of folks have already
expressed interest, and we have a few potential sponsors lined up so far.

For this first event, we have a couple speakers already interested in
presenting. We could either seed the agenda with 3-4 of those talks or host
a Call for Papers––similar to what's being done for Apache Iceberg meetups.
If we agree to proceed with the event, please let me know how we'd like to
handle content.

I also want to use this opportunity to kick off a similar discussion to
what we had on the Iceberg mailing list about meetups. There's an open PR
<https://github.com/apache/iceberg/pull/13520> for updating the Iceberg
site with guidelines. Would the Polaris project want to adopt the same
guidelines to encourage the community to host events?

Looking forward to bringing the community together!
Danica
