Sorry to have to post this question here. I am going to have to convince
a higher-up of the suitability of OOo for an academic database project
over the use of FileMaker (which is not available on my platform, which
is Linux). An objection i got a few months ago in a planning meeting
concerning the use of any open source solution was that this higher-up
had attempted to install a version of OOo 1.x on his Mac, found it very
complicated, and ultimately failed. This gave him a very negative
impression of open source software in general. I would therefore like to
have an idea of whether the installation process for OOo 2.0 on OS X
will be any simpler than for OOo 1.x. What will the major steps be?
Another question concerns the use of Base on the Mac. Could i get a
confirmation that this works okay? That will be essential for selling
the OOo solution.
Just to balance out my boss's view, i greatly appreciate all the work
you guys have done on the Mac port. A year ago on a visit to my
brother's, i was able to install OOo on his Mac, allowing him to open
Word documents for the first time!
Thanks,
Leston
