If it means anything, I've been vigorously testing out Mac OOo 2.0r3 lately, and maybe it converted a NeoO file which I saved again as a .sxw and had subtly changed it enough to gag NeoO somehow?

I have no idea, sorry. Just a question : you mean Neo Office used it' own file extension ?
