We Japanese must handle a lot of (~10000) chars at a time. Historically we have 
suffered
how to code and encode characters (difference between JIS and UNICODE).
And also we write Japanese text both vertically and horizontally (and font is 
typically
implimented to write horizontally only).
There are also special characters for punctuation and rules. if we violate this 
rule,
text can look very ugly, etc etc etc etc.

I don't know about CK, I assume situation is quite simular (and also different 
in details...)
