Hi Tester!

Some of you have asked also on OOo Con '06 how we assure the quality in child workspaces (CWS). One - not the onliest - answer, here for 'global' child workspaces can be found in parts in the OOo Wiki now. The test plan describes the timeframe, resources, test strategy etc. It can be used also for other 'global' CWS checks.

*What is a 'global' CWS?*

If the release engineering, a developer or a developer project is
- changing the compiler,
- deleting unused headers,
- removing unused variables,
- ....

they request our service of a full blown automated test cycle - which are ~230 tests ~3555 testcases to be sure that they do not break the MASTER build (also known as HEAD in CVS 'language').

They know that they bind resources so only these 'global' CWSes will tested in that way. The 'normal' CWS will be tested with special tests which reflects the areas of changes in the CWS.

*The huge test cycle*

We have currently some of those 'global' CWSes under test and we will have finished one tomorrow (if there is nothing which hinders us...).

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/CWS_mingwport03

There you can see that each modul is affected and the Sun test automators (=> VCL TestTool test script maintainers) run _all_ test of each module on a installation- or patch-set (=> Sun is delivering also patches to Sun Solve, an update service for software from Sun).

We need a closer look on Windows because the change will be enabling gcc compiler on Win32. We also have a second test cycle on the UNIX/Linux builds to be sure to have no regression or "side effect" on these platforms.

*The smaller test cycle*

In another case http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Hedaburemove01
only one platform and also one test cycle is needed because all platforms will have the same problem if there is one. The timeframe is three days smaller than the 'big' one.

*Some more information*

We are not running only the 45 'release'/'resource' tests on such 'global' CWSes. We run the full set of tests and we have to analyze the results. The most time is needed for the analyze phase not for just running the tests.

If you have questions feel free to ask.

Cu,
Jogi
