This is absolutely not necessary for unsubscribing.
If your mailprovider doesn't allow sending with another from-address,
you can still unsubscribe another address.

:-) The question is how many people keep it. I'm getting more than 100
mails in average every day, most of them from OOo mailing lists, so I
trash as much as I can. That's of course my fault somehow. ;-)
instead of writing to [EMAIL PROTECTED], send the mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
I guess I didn't new this, because I do not read all the informations in
the mails you mentioned above. ;-)
i.e. replace the @ in your email with a = and add it as part of the address.
Reply to the confirmationrequest that is sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (doesn't matter what address is in From, just
use regular reply) and you're unsubscribed.
Same for the other lists.
I resolved the problem with old mail addresses, because now I'm
subscribing by sending an email to
<list>-subscribe@<project>.openoffice.org using my OOo mail address. Now
I just can go to my OOo profile and change my mail address, because
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is virtual and gets forwarded to my real mail account.
I hope these assumptions are right and this is going to work for ever.
