Sure. But half of my family and friends would consider changing file associations more or less the same as destroying. They haven't a clue what file associations are -- heck, they don't know the difference between a web browser and the internet - and can't really deal with them. The basic model they have of how computers work is superficial and simplistic, and they don't have time or inclination to learn more.
