we don't have any LDAP users on the dev team at the moment (afaik), so it's
pretty hard to review changes to that code :(
What is the effect of the change, in detail? Is it not possible to set it to a
null string any other way? Will it break any existing installations unless they
change their local configuration?
I think it's unlikely to make it into 3.2.2 (which is on the verge of release),
but it should be possible for 3.2.3; but we need some help understanding its
implications ;)
