I'm using FC1 (yes, I know it is OLD). I've compiled perl 5.10.0 from source downloaded from perl site. I can get the crash to occur in the server if I run the spamassassin tool from the command prompt. But the version running from the command line doesn't seem to be crashing itself; so the problem may be in the deamon itself. I'll try to look into this further.... anyone else have perl-5.10.0 success???
