To be 100% clear, given that your rc3 didn't apply the "use bytes" hack
I'm mainly objecting to calling it rc3.
I am wary of applying the "use bytes" hack at such a late moment before
3.3.0 release. This is NOT a regression.
If we are not applying the "use bytes" hack, then we should cut the
3.3.0 final today.
