This would not really be a problem with WordPerfect documents. WP treats
these characters as pictures (It even has fonts for each charset in
several versions, i.e. Arial imitation, Courrier imitation, Times
imitation...). The linking of the characters has to be done by the user
himself chosing the right version of the character (standalone, left
linked, right linked, both sides linked). Libwpd is mapping only the
characters that represent a standalone character into the unicode number
of its canonical version (0x06??). The linked characters are mapped into
the presentation versions that correspond exactly to the linked version.
Like that (and except possible errors in our tables), the linking that
the user did in WP is exactly reproduced in Writer.
Just if the controls were not displayed :-) !
Even if you get it to work, it still looks like a fundamentally wrong
approach to me. Importing a WP file into Writer is supposed to result in
real, editable text that can be searched or sorted, not just something
that happens to look right. I'd suggest to reverse the text in the filter.
