Jens Geyer commented on THRIFT-5347:
------------------------------------

The Haskell library is traditionally (and unfortunately) one of the most
under-maintained areas in Apache Thrift. That being said, if you want to step
up as a contributor and potentially future committer maintaining the Haskell
bindings, you are more than welcome. We can certainly need more support in that
area. ^1)^

I personally consider the thrift Haskell library not production ready due to
e.g. THRIFT-5098 and THRIFT-5231.

Adding another meta-ticket about two tickets open and unresolved for quite a
while does not add much value, so I relabelled this one as "brainstorming".
{quote}I would recommend that you instead suggest that people use one of the
following two alternative implementations:

That sounds like a super great plan, but it really is not so easy as this. As
an ASF project we can't just copy over a bunch of sources from an arbitrary
project we might think we need. What is possible can be summarized as follows:
 * A contributor can contribute stuff he/she owns or has sufficient
rights/permissions to do so
 * Anyone (e.g. you) could contact the people owning the code and ask them if
they might wish to contribute their stuff.

This includes putting it under APACHE-2 or any compatible license (see ASF
website) if this is not already the case.

If you are still in doubt about any of the legal restrictions and want to go to
the source, feel free to ask on the appropriate ASF mailing list(s) and/or file
a LEGAL ticket.

At this place I want to repeat what I said above: If you have a few hours every
now and then to contribute yourself and actively improve the Thrift Haskell
bindings, this would be awesome and much appreciated.
