Maybe that's the issue, then. These tools generally are not geared to
make things easy on the eyes, but rather to avoid common and easily
avoidable programming mistakes. As Romain pointed out, having braces
around if/else clauses, even single line ones, will in the long run
avoid hard to spot bugs.

You're writing code yourself, but think of all the other people
involved right now and in the future. Make it as easy and simple to
maintain and test as possible. That's what these tools help enforce.

Frankly speaking, easily testable and maintainable code is and looks
incredibly boring; and I find that boring code is far more beautiful,
truly, than spaces vs tabs or if { vs if\n{ or any other code beauty
type of debates.
